How Super Progress increases engagement?

While ordering food online, one thing I have noticed is the anticipation of the meal arriving is often a stronger emotional driver than the actual consumption of it. The tracking status of the delivery app is an instant dopamine rush. The sooner the food is on my way, the more excited I am.

The same goes for my shopping cart. The sooner the status goes from packaging to shipped the more content I am.

These tracking statuses have something called the progress bar and you might find these in a video player as well. It's a subtle UI trick that makes the progress bar move slightly faster at first, making the video feel shorter and encouraging viewers to keep watching. It gradually syncs back to real speed. They are designed as a psychological reassurance tool than a real-time tracker.

Every small update in super progress bar acts like a reward trigger:

  • Something is happening
  • You’re getting closer
  • Stay a little longer

This keeps users emotionally invested in the experience. This is why progress indicators, real or simulated, are so powerful because they reduce uncertainty and create a sense of movement.

Bringing This to Video: Super Progress

We applied this same idea to our video player by adding a super progress bar.

At the start, the progress bar moves slightly faster than normal. This creates the perception that:

  • The video is shorter than expected
  • You’re progressing quickly
  • Completion is near

As the video continues, the speed gradually normalizes, so the experience still feels natural.

Why This Drives Engagement

This simple shift changes user behavior:

  • Users are more likely to stay till the end
  • Drop-offs are reduced
  • Attention span increases
  • Users feel a stronger sense of completion

Now, this feature becomes super interesting when you have a CTA at the right moment. I mean imagine the bar of the video is moving faster, and the CTA button appears, so now you are prompted to take the action faster, basically it’s amplifying your engagement into action.

If you are someone who wants this experience on your website, you can check out our video player. It’s also got some cool features apart from a super progress bar.
